WILL
of Raleigh Downman
*Raleigh Downman was the son of William Downman & Million Travers,
and the first husband of Margaret Ball.
*Will Dated: December 29, 1718.
In the name of God amen I Raleigh Downman in ye parish of Saint maries
white Chappell in ye County of Lancasterbeing Sick and weak but of perfect
minde and memory thanks be to almighty god Doe make and Declare this to be my
Last Will and testament. First and principally my Soul into ye hands of
almighty God and my Bodie to Christian buriall and as for my worldy goods I
give as followeth,
Item - I give to my Loving wife my plantation whereon I now live and
all land thereunto beig'ng and four negroes Sam toney Harry and Je(?)re.
Item - I give unto my Son William my plantation Called mountsion lying
in Richmond County and all ye Land thereunto belonging to him and heyrs for
Ever.
Item - I give to my sd Son Wm Downman all my Land which I bought of
James Iago and John Simmonds, lying in Richmond County to him and his he'rs for
Ever.
Item - I give to my sd Son a negroe woman Called Cate with all Her
Increase.
Item - I give unto ye Childe which my sd wife is now with Childe with
all ye Land which I bought of Mr. John Taylo lying in Lancaster County to he or
she and their heyrs for Ever.
Item - I give to ye sd Childe a negro girl Called nanne with all her
increase.
Item - I give to my sd Son William and ye Childe which my sd wife now
goes with all ye money which I have Due to me in great Britian after my Debts
are payd to be laid cutrin young negroes for them and it is my will and
pleashur yt all my Cropps of tobacco made this year Shall be Shipped home and
ye nt proceads to be equally Divided between my sd wife and my sd two Childes
and my Desire is yt my Estate Shall be divided between my sd wife and sd two
Children when my Son shall come to the age of Eighteen years.
I Constitute and appointe my sd wife and my Loving brother William
Downman and my two Loving brothers in Law Capt Richard ball and Mr. James ball
to be my whole and soul Exix of this my Last will and testament whereunto I
have Set my hand and fixed my Seal this twenty ninth Day of December 1718-9.
